Egypt And Oman Strengthen Maritime And Port Cooperation
Shipping Arabia, January 14, 2025 — In a significant effort to enhance economic and trade relations, Egypt’s Cabinet has ratified a draft presidential decree for a “Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Maritime Transport and Ports” between Egypt and Oman. This decision follows the initial signing of the agreement during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Oman in 2022, highlighting a commitment to fostering bilateral ties.
The agreement aims to improve coordination in maritime transport and activities between the two countries, facilitating the removal of barriers that hinder the development of maritime operations. It seeks to enhance multimodal transport and logistics, as well as promote initiatives for sharing expertise and information. Additionally, it encompasses cooperation in port management and the maintenance and repair of ships.
This collaboration represents a crucial advancement in strengthening maritime links between Egypt and Oman, promising to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of their maritime logistics operations. The agreement aligns with both nations’ strategic goals to broaden their global trade reach and enhance their transportation infrastructures.
In a related decision, the Cabinet also approved an amendment to Presidential Decree No. 423 of 2019, which pertains to the establishment of “International Knowledge Universities,” including a branch of Coventry University in Egypt. The amendment introduces a new Bachelor’s program in Physical Therapy, addressing the global demand for skilled professionals in this field. This new program aims to provide students with essential medical skills and practical experience, paving the way for substantial job opportunities upon graduation.
These Cabinet decisions not only expand educational opportunities in Egypt but also strengthen maritime operations with Oman, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation across various sectors.
