Alexandria Port And EDSCO Sign Contract For Integrated Logistics Station

Shipping Arabia, January 23, 2025 — In a strategic effort to enhance its operational capabilities, the Alexandria Port Authority has finalized a significant contract with Egypt Holland Stevedoring Services Company (EDSCO). The agreement, which was witnessed by Major General Nehad Shahin, Deputy Minister of Transport for Maritime Transport, focuses on developing and operating an integrated logistics station at berth no. 85/3 for the handling and storage of clean dry bulk goods.

The contract was signed by Major General Ahmed Abdel Moaty Hawash, Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority, and Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, CEO of EDSCO. This collaboration is in line with the directives of Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, who aims to strengthen Egypt’s maritime infrastructure and position the country as a leading global trade and logistics hub.

This initiative is part of a broader plan to enhance the operational capacity of Greater Alexandria Port, which is expected to handle more than 120 million tons of cargo annually once ongoing expansions are completed. The new logistics station is projected to increase the port’s grain and crop handling and storage capacity by an additional 5 million tons each year.

The development, managed by Egyco Company, will cover an area of 35,000 square meters and feature a quay that is 514 meters long with a depth of 15 meters, allowing it to accommodate vessels weighing up to 70,000 tons. This project not only boosts Alexandria Port’s handling capabilities but also reinforces its role as a vital hub in the Mediterranean, connecting Africa with Asia and Europe.
